Do you have to start a new game in fallout new Vegas for patch 1.02 to work?

Some of the things are working with my current game but it still has vats problems and the monorail in I put a spell on you leaves before you can get on. There are plenty of other problems as well.Do you have to start a new game in fallout new Vegas for patch 1.02 to work?
You shouldn't have to start a new game for any of the patches, as they are designed to implement current games. As FNV is a game that is buggy as heck, you can count on there still being plenty of bugs even after a patch is downloaded. In the coming months, new patches should come out that should correct more and more errors as Blizzard is told about them. If the most current patch hasn't fixed your bugs, I'd suggest to go to the forums and post a report on what bugs you are still experiencing. This will help to increase the speed at which those bugs will be fixed. Anyway, hope this helps.
